Why every Tidebird app does one job

We are a small team in Hanoi, Vietnam, making Shopify apps. Each one does one thing. Here is why, and what we are working on.

One job each

Before Tidebird, we spent years in ecommerce, running Shopify stores and building custom apps for merchants. We kept seeing the same thing: every new app added another banner, pop-up or script, and the product page got slower and busier.

What we saw in stores

A store would install an app for one feature and get ten. Each app wanted space on the product page. Settings lived in five places. When something broke at checkout, nobody knew which app had caused it.

Merchants did not want more features. They wanted the one thing they installed the app for to work, and everything else to stay as it was.

Three rules for every app

One job per app. Each app solves one problem. Setup takes a few steps, and nothing else in your store changes.

Clean storefronts first. Nothing on your product page that shoppers did not ask to see. Widgets use your theme’s font and the colors you pick.

Built on Shopify. Discounts, checkout rules and theme blocks come from Shopify itself, so orders and stock stay right.

How we decide

When a feature request comes in, we ask one question: does it make the app's one job work better? If not, it does not go in, even if it would look good on a feature list.

The apps

Tidebird Gift Lift is live. It gives shoppers a free real product when their cart reaches a spend threshold, with a checkout guard so the gift is never charged by mistake.

Tidebird Fox Sub & Bundle is on the way. It builds subscriptions and bundles from one offer and shows them as one widget on the product page.

Tidebird Holdspot is on the way. It adds back-in-stock alerts and pre-orders to sold-out products, so a waitlist can turn into orders.

Who answers your emails

We are two builders. The people who build the apps are the people who reply to support, in GMT+7 hours. If something does not work the way you expect, you will hear from someone who can fix it.

What comes next

We are finishing Fox Sub & Bundle and Holdspot, and we will write here when each one is ready. On this blog we will keep sharing what we learn about product pages, offers and restocks, whether you use our apps or not.
